Eclipse darkens sky over Asia
The sun's delicate corona and a flash of bright sunlight are visible in this view of the July 22 solar eclipse, as observed from a ship sailing south of Tokyo. The "diamond ring" effect occurs just as the total phase of theeclipse is beginning or ending. July 22: The longest solar eclipse of this century turned the sky over parts of Asia dark for more than six minutes earlier today. TODAY’s Ann Curry reports.





A combo photograph shows the partial solar eclipse that was seen from Seoul, South Korea. The partial phase began at 9:34 a.m. and reached its peak at 10:50 a.m. local time when the moon covered nearly 80 percent of the sun.
